Halloween Disco Pumpkins couple Shoot

Happy Halloween ladies and gentlemen!!

I thought it was fitting that I blogged some of my favorites, from this Super Spoooookkyyy (Sense the sarcasm) Disco Pumpkins session today being its Halloween and all!

As I am sure many of you have seen there is a freaking AWESOME sauce Pumpkin head couples session trend taking over the internet this season! Whoever thought to put a pumpkin on your couples heads first.. GO YOU! How fun!!! And while I wish I could take credit for that.. I can’t. HOWEVER, I did want to step out of the box and take this trend to a whole different place and level and embrace my funky creative side. So while in the shower (where I do all my best thinking DUH!) ,brainstorming ideas, it quite literally just came to me! Lets give a little glitz and glam to these pumpkins and make them something to talk about!

Backstory.. This session wasn’t suppose to happen. I was suppose to be in Mexico photographing an elopement with no time to plan a Halloween session. So naturally being bummed out about a hurricane derailing my travel plans, I had to fill my time in with something fun! First I took to good ol’ Amazon and searched Disco Pumpkin squares, yes that simple. Threw it in my cart, and primed it up! Then I headed to the Patch.. the pumpkin patch that is! And found myself two pumpkins that were big enough to fit anyones head because I had not yet found my couple. Random Fact about me- When searching for my personal at home pumpkin, I ALWAYS pick the ones that have imperfections and odd quirks. This year my stem was massive making my pumpkin look extremely small. I feel bad for the weirdos so I swoop them up and give them a loving home. HA!*

Okay, back to the shoot. I drew out my faces and with help from my husband carved them to perfection. Poured some tea, turned on a binge worthy show and spent a few hours super glueing shiny squares to a pumpkin. The entire time I couldn’t help but smile as the pumpkin stared back at me with the most cheerful grin and stars in his eyes. While tedious, it was actually really fun and somewhat thereputic to be required to put my phone down, step away from my editing and do something just for shits and giggles!

The origional plan was to do this to two pumpkins, but as I ran out of little squares I realized I may need a back up plan. I ordered more squares, but with these being real pumpkins and all, I was nervous that they would rot out before wrapping up the second. I had ordered this fabric during one of my meltdown Covid quarantine moments when I thought.. Hey! Maybe I’ll randomly make a dress! HA! The boredom had kicked in and I was needing a creative outlet. The dress did not happen.. but the fabric was still put to good use, making this here pretty lady a little ghosty bride!

Called my most wild, down for anything couple up, who by no surprise JUMPED at the opportunity and we headed out to a field with a few drinks in hand and laughed our asses off snapping some epic HILARIOUS photos! Shout out to Erin and Aaron for killing it!

In closing, this shoot took me out of my cancelled travel funk, allowed me to put my creativity to good use! While I had NO IDEA, this shoot would take off like it did I hope it helps to inspire other photographers to get weird. Take a trend, and make it something unique. Something that screams YOU.
